Josephine Butler Society (UK)
A pressure group fighting against exploitation of prostitutes and the marginalisation of those who can
be forced into prostitution by poverty and abuse. It lobbies Government on prostitution issues and liaises with statutory and voluntary agencies.
Since prostitution is legal the JBS maintains that it is the duty of government:
to ensure that a legal occupation may be conducted in safety
to ensure that social welfare supports are available to all members of the community without discrimination
to provide protection for women and children who are criminally detained,
violently abused or exploited by others who profit from their prostitution
to provide routes out of prostitution for those people who wish to abandon the occupation
